How to Install Windchill 10.2 M030 with SQL Server 2014 on Windows Server 2012 R2: Basic Hardware Requirements

The below basic hardware requirements are recommendations based on experience.  You can get by with less but the following should be good for up to 30 CAD (Heavy) Users and 20 Business (Light) Users. 

 

  • Single Tier Setup (1 server for both Windchill and SQL)
    •  Windows Server 64bit 2008 R2, 2012, 2012 R2
    • Quad Core CPU (released within last 2 years, 4 actual cores not including Hyper-Threading, ideally at 2.00 GHz+)
    • 24 GB RAM Minimum (much better to have 32 GB+)
    • ~60 GB for Windows Install
    • ~100 GB for Windchill Install + Filevault + plan for 1 Gb/User/Year growth
    • ~100 GB for SQL Install + plan for 1 Gb/User/Year growth
    • ~40 GB for Initial Backup
    • Enough Space for Daily Backups of Database, Filevault, and LDAP file
    • C drive with 120 GB Drive
    • E drive for Windchill Install with 120 GB
    • S drive for SQL Install and Database with 1 TB
    • F drive for Windchill Filevault with 1 TB
    • All Hard Drives should be on RAID 5 or 6 at least and all partitions should be on separate drives
  • Two Tier Setup (1 server for Windchill and 1 server for SQL)
    • Windchill Server
      • Windows Server 64bit 2008 R2, 2012, 2012 R2
      • Quad Core CPU (released within last 3 years, 4 actual cores not including Hyper-Threading, ideally at 2.00 GHz+)
      • 16 GB RAM Minimum (much better to have 24 GB+)
      • ~60 GB for Windows Install

      • ~40 GB for Initial Backup
